LG CDMA cell phones
This has been tested on: LG Lx-5550, Vx-6100, Vx-8300, Vx9800 (Verizon only, no SPC)
This document is also available in PDF format for easier viewing and printing.
Lx5550
First, connect the phone with the serial cable (model 4010) to the computer

Click on the LG DM icon on the desktop (It’s a program with a sheep on its knees)

Click on the right eye to change COM port selection
Then Click on the right eye to set the phone to DM mode.
Close the DM program
Open the UniCDMA software, setup the proper COM port, choose LG from the Mode drop down list. Then, go to the EEPROM section.
Read the first 16KB of the EEPROM to a file. Ignore the error.
Open that file in a hex editor such as HxD Hex Editor
The SPC code should be near the top appearing as a six-digit code. Close UniCDMA.
Spirent Universal PST
The Spirent Universal PST is a versatile program that can program many types of CDMA phones. It supports plug-in DLL files. For now, we’ll limit the topic to LG phones.

Now, use Spirent Universal PST, choose manufacturer LGE
Choose the model Lx5350 or other appropriate models. Usually they are cross compatible.

Go to menu, Edit | Options choose the right COM port

Go to Device | Connect
When you see on the right hand corner of the bottom status bar the ESN and the model of the phone, you are ready to write the PRL.
Now, click on Start to write PRL. This should take between 30 seconds to 1 minute.
If you need to program the NAM info such as the phone number, you can use either UniCDMA or Universal PST. Or you can do it on the phone by referring to the complete CDMA NAM programming guide.
Vx8300 (should also work on Vx6600)
The Vx8300 uses a special USB cable driver; it uses two virtual COM ports: One for modem, and another one for diagnostic. You need to use the diagnostic port for programming.

If the LG Vx8300 or Vx6100 is from Verizon, you probably won’t have to read the SPC because Verizon phones don’t have SPC. So you can skip the DM Mode and SPC reading steps.
Start Universal PST, select LG Lx5350 (for some reason, the Lx5350 programming is compatible with the Vx8300 and Vx6100), and choose the right COM port. Once you see the phone connected on the bottom status bar. You can perform the PRL write function. When the process completes, it should return with a success message.
