Generally, when you connect a new model of Motorola phone to the computer, the computer will detect it and attempt to install drivers. Motorola phones use several different drivers, the USB Modem, Data Interface, P2K, etc. Please allow the entire proper drivers to be detected and installed before attempting to work on the phone.

You will spend most of your time working with the Motorola PST and P2Kseem. The Motorola PST is a product support tool from Motorola that allow you to customize just about everything with the phone. Primarily, the purpose is to upload PRL and edit NAM. You can also customize the WAP/Internet setting on the phone using the Motorola PST.

Text Box: PRL

To write the PRL, first, connect the phone to the computer. Open PST Phone Programmer, and go to File | Open. Choose CDMA PRL. Then, pick the Cricket PRL file. Once the file is opened, it should look like the above screen shot. Click on the icon Write Phone Note: On some Motorola phones, you have to write PRL2 as well to make it work. Most of the time, it should write without any interruptions. However, some times if the phone has a SPC code, you will need to go to the next step using P2Kseem editor to find the SPC code.

P2Kseem editor

Text Box: The P2K is the product code for many Motorola phones. Many small tweaks can be done with seem editing such as changing the external LCD’s display text.

What is a seem? Seem (NVSEEM): SEEMS are storage containers for Phone Settings information. Each setting is stored as a single bit, which can have a value of 1 or 0. Often, the value of a bit is represented by a check box, Checked = 1, Unchecked = 0.

The most important SEEM element we are concerned are the SPC, user and phone security code.

If when you are writing the PRL or NAM using PST Phone Programmer, and it asks you for a SPC, you need to keep the PST open and open the P2Kseem program.

You need to be concerned only about NAM1 for Cricket. You need to change the MIN, the Mobile Directory Number (Phone Number), and the CDMA Home System (SID 1). The SID is 4729 for Cricket San Diego. The NID is 65535, a wild card default number. Write to phone once you are finished.

Sometimes when you connect a newer Motorola phone and you don't have the USB driver, just press * # and power on the phone to put it into Bootloader USB mode. This will make the computer detect it as a Flashing interface and you can avoid the trouble to find the drivers.

Flashing

Some times you need to flash the firmware of the phone and you can use the MultiFlashFlex Tool to accomplish this.

Text Box:
When you connect the phone to the computer and start this program, it should automatically detect the phone.

Select the proper flash file and click on Start. It should go through the entire flashing process. Some times at 99% it will fail and gives you an error, don’t worry because the phone has been flashed successfully. You can verify this by removing the battery of the phone and restart it.
